Tickets to Poás Volcano National Park are purchased in advance only on the official SINAC website. They are not sold at the entrance.
Book for the early morning. The crater tends to cloud over as the day goes on, so between 8:00 and 8:30 a.m. you have the best chance of seeing it clear.
Temperatures drop sharply at the summit and it can rain without warning. Layered clothing, a jacket and a raincoat are essential year-round.
